"Textile artist Madeleine Millington was born in Reading in the 1950s and grew up in the Midlands and in Yorkshire.As a child she was always given encouragement by her parents in her various activities, including painting and drawing, from a very young age. She trained to become a teacher in Yorkshire, studying art as her main subject, then taught art for 12 years before marrying and starting a family. During this time she studied for a Certificate of City & Guilds in Embroidery and Design.Madeleine Millington works principally with old woollen blankets, which she dyes in bright contemporary colours and which she sees as a form of recycling. She then stitches and embellishes all the pieces of her unusual and sometimes naïve collages and appliqués by hand.Away from her art, Madeleine Millington loves classical music and the sea."
