"Pierre Victor Galland was born in Geneva in 1822, although his nationality was French.His father, Jacques Galland, was an accomplished goldsmith and he studied metalwork under his father until the age of 16, before entering the studio of Henri Labrouste to study architecture.His training with Labrouste lasted two years, following which he was persuaded to pursue a career in decorative painting. In this career, he worked under the direction of many leading contemporary artists and the eminent decorative painter Pierre-Luc-Charles Ciceri hired Galland from 1853 to assist with the painting of decorative touches, including garlands, flowers, figures and fruit. It is for this work, often painted onto wood or plaster, for which Galland is best known today.P V Galland died in 1892."
